Add an Annotation Feature Manually
print icon

There are two places you can manually add features to a sequence.

From Create Dropdown

Select the type of feature (Feature, Feature segment, or Translation) to be added, fill in the information in the Add/Edit feature window, press “Save” to create the new feature.

When no sequence is selected, the Feature segment and Translation option are disabled. Only “Feature” can be created. After you fill in feature name, feature type (selecting from the feature key list), feature location (start and end position, strand), feature description, and feature color (selecting from predefined palette), press “Save” to create the annotation feature.

When a sequence fragment is selected and it doesn’t contain any feature, both “Feature” and “Translation” options are available. This is the place to add a translation feature to the sequence. After selecting the “Translation” option, the “Create/Edit Feature” window will show up. The feature type will be set to CDS. The start and end positions will be populated based on the selection.

  • You can add feature name, product name, and description fields, and select a color from the predefined palette.
  • If the length of the DNA sequence is not multiple of 3, the “Length” will be shown in red and you won’t be able to save the translation feature. After you change the start and/or end position, the translation recalculation button (the blue circle next to the translation field) will be enabled. Pressing this button will recalculate the translation sequence.
  • The feature can be split into segments. Please refer to the Segment Feature guide for more information.

When a sequence fragment is selected and it contains a feature, besides “Feature” and “Translation” options, the “Feature segment” option will be available. This will allow you to update the selected feature as a segment feature. Please refer to the Segment Feature guide for more information.

From the Feature Panel

Click the arrow to expand the side panel, then press +Add New Feature in the feature panel to open the Add/Edit feature window. After filling in all information, press “Save” to create the new feature.
