Effective 11/29/2022, the way in which sub-row data is imported and exported to and from Request Item Types, also known as the tables in Work Requests and Custom Experiments, has changed. Sub-rows are available in fields of Request Item Types that have been configured to "Allow Multiple Values" which is evident by the presence of a "+" signal to the right of the cell to add data (see below). For additional information on configuring Request Item Types and enabling fields to contain Multiple Values, please refer to our Edit an Existing Request Item Type in Workflow Article.
To manually add data to a Request Item Type Table containing fields configured to "Allow Multiple Values," press the "+" button to add additional sub-row(s). This will add sub-rows to the fields associated and configured to "Allow Multiple Values." As shown below, three sub-rows have been added to to the Sample Description and Step Volume (ml) fields, while the Sample Lot # field remains as a single value.
Exporting Request Item Type Table Data with Sub-Rows
Although the process of manually adding sub-rows (multiple values) remains the same, exporting sub-row data (to a .csv or .sdf) and importing sub-row data (from a .xls, .xlsx, .csv, .sdf, .cdx or .cdxml) into a Request Item Type will now change. When the data in the example above is exported to a .csv file (done by clicking "Export CSV"), sub-row data now exports in a single row, with the data from different sub-rows separated by a vertical bar "|" and is enclosed within square brackets "[]". This can be seen in the example below, where the Sample Lot# is a single value AL20221129-01 while the Sample Description sub-row data reformats to a single row with the values separated by a vertical bar "|" and is enclosed in square brackets "[]"; [AL-test-01a|AL-test-01b|AL-test-01c]. The same is true for the Step Volume (mL) sub-row data. Please note the text color of the vertical bar and brackets has been changed to red and blue for example purposes only.
Importing Sub-Row Data into Request Item Type Tables
Alternatively, this same formatting should be used when importing data into Request Item Type tables if you hope to separate data into sub-rows. The example below illustrates the correct formatting required in an .csv, .xls, etc. file to correctly parse data out when importing into a Request Item Type table. This is the same formatting as shown above from a .csv file exported from a Request Item Type Table.
The screenshot below shows how the data from the imported file (above) is parsed out as an individual value (see Sample Lot# data) and as multiple values, displayed in sub-rows (see Sample Description and Step Volume (mL) data).
Lastly, below shows the final Request Item Type result.
