Recover Temporary Files Used by Live Edit from the Recycle Bin

This guide explains the process of recovering temporary files used in Live Edit version 2.2.0 if a file in the experiment becomes corrupted after being checked in.

When a file is checked out from the experiment using Live Edit, a temporary file is created in a hidden folder on your local drive. All changes made to the file are saved in this temporary file. After the file is checked back into the experiment, the temporary file is moved to the Recycle Bin. These temporary files have machine-generated names, making them difficult to identify directly.

To recover temporary files from the Recycle Bin:

  1. Open the Recycle Bin folder on the device where the file was checked out and sort the files by Date Deleted.
  2. Look for a file whose deletion time is close to the timestamp of the file in the attachment table in the revision where the file was corrupted.
  3. Restore the file using one of the following methods:
    • Drag and drop the file from the Recycle Bin folder to the desktop or an empty folder.
    • Right-click the file name, select the “Cut” option, then paste it into the desired folder.
    • Right-click the file name and select the “Restore” option. This will restore it to the hidden folder used by Live Edit.

or

      • Open a new file explorer window and find the file in the “Recent files” section.
