Using Live Edit

Live Edit enables users to edit all file attachments and chemistry reactions from the ELN interface as long as the software necessary to open the file (ChemDraw, Word, PowerPoint, etc) is installed on their device locally. Be sure to properly install the host and extension necessary to utilize this feature.

 

Note: This feature is only supported in the Google Chrome Browser or Microsoft Edge version 83.0.478.13 or later.

 

  1. The link to Live Edit installation user guide can be found on the left navigation bar on your main dashboard page (as outlined in red below).

 

 

  1. Installing live edit on your computer may require IT assistance depending on your computer’s security settings. Please follow the included instruction to install both the host file and browser extension.

 

 

  1. You can now open or create a chemistry experiment and edit the Structure directly in your Chemistry Drawing Tool. Click in the Strucure window. This will launch the drawing tool, and allow you to edit the Structure, or add a reaction. When you finish drawing the structure, Save the file in the drawing tool, and close it. The Structue window will display ‘Click to Submit Changes’. Click in the field to update the Structure in the experiment. If the Structure should not be edited, there is a ‘Discard Checkout’ button at the bottom if the window.

 

  1. It is also possible to Check Out files from the Attachments table. After Attaching files to the experiment, Click on Save or Publish. The Check Out button will appear next to the file name. Click on the Check Out button, the file will open if the required software is installed on your computer. Make any needed changes and save and close the file. Click the Check In button to update the version of the file in the experiment. There is a Discard Checkout button that can be used if the change should be abandoned.
