Hidden Folder in PC for Live Edit Checked out Documents

When a document is checked out using Live Edit, it is saved in a local hidden folder on the computer. When the edits are made, the changes are saved to this file in the hidden folder. When the file is checked in, the file in the hidden folder is uploaded to ELN to replace the current file. This user guide is to demonstrate how to find the hidden folder on the local computer.

  1. Open File Explore window, click "View" and make sure "Hidden Items" is selected.

 

  1. Open any experiment with attachment files, select Check Out, this will open the file in its own program, such as Microsoft Word if a .doc document is checked out.

 

  1. Microsoft Word will be used as an example to show the steps. You can follow the similar procedure to find the hidden folder in other programs.
  2. When a document is checked out, it will have a name with a string of characters.
    1. Press “File” on the top left of the manual bar

 

    1. Select “Info” from the left panel, then press “Open file location”. This will open the hidden folder where all checked out the documents are save.

 

    1. The folder location is shown on the top of the window. The user can look for the documents they are interested based “Date modified”.
