Reopening an Experiment

Reopening an experiment can be done by any user who is enabled. This is a separate setting that is not automatically granted by any particular level of access.

If a user has the reopen privilege, when they navigate to the PDF version of a signed and closed or witnessed experiment, there will be a reopen option there.

After selecting reopen, the user will be prompted to enter a reason for reopening. This reason is appended as a note to the experiment and the action is added to the audit trail. A reason is required to be entered any time an experiment is reopened.

Once reopened, the experiment becomes fully editable for the owner.

For a witnessed experiment, the “Reopen” button is only displayed in the PDF view of the witnessed revision (the latest revision). When changing from the PDF View to the Experiment View, the system purposely loads the signed/closed revision (the revision before the witnessed revision). When switching from Experiment View to PDF view again by clicking the “Show PDF Version” button, the PDF view of the signed/closed version, not the witnessed version, is displayed. Therefore, the “Reopen” button is not visible. The PDF view of the witnessed revision can be loaded again by clicking the time stamp of the witnessed revision under experiment History in the left navigation bar.
